-> That would have been the stupidest reason to get rid of McGriff. At
-> best it's a wash for the Braves (I say "at best" because I don't
-> place that much value on the differences in defense compared to
-> offense).
I'm not a Braves fan (in fact, I squeal with delight every time they lose),
but from a purely baseball point of view, dumping McGriff, a much more
consistant, less-expensive player, for Galarraga was not smart..
Galarraga's last season out of Colorado (1992 with St. Louis) he hit .230
with 10 home runs, and was so bad he was RELEASED by the Cardinals, who it
took 5 1/2 years to replace him at first (with Mark McGwire).. Galarraga has
been a poor hitter away from Colorado since going there, and now, he's gonna
spend all but 6 games out of Coors field.. Poor, poor decision..
Apparently, the Braves are tired of going to the playoffs and losing, so
it looks to me like they're trying to avoid the playoffs all-together...
Dumping Blauser, trading McGriff for literally nothing and signing
Galarraga... Not retaining Lofton (not a surprise to me)... What they are
thinking, I dunno...
However, I'd rather focus on a much more uplifting team.. Like the Dodgers.
