RB> Wait. You forgot the most important reason people become prosecutors:

You might be right in certain cases. The career prosecutors I know have been
doing it for over 10 years, some over 15 years. I guess they haven't been
lucky or that wasn't in their plans. You would have to remember that the
politicians in my neck of the woods don't make very much money, especially
compared to a good defense attorney. As an example, I think that our Mayor
makes $1,800 a month, travel expense, and a car furnished with gas, oil, and
repairs. A good defense attorney might make that much in a day. I think that
an Oklahoma Senator makes between $30,000 and $35,000 a year, certain
expenses paid, and has a great retirement plan. A good defense attorney would
charge more than that on the one ax-murderer case you were talking about. The
smart move would be to establish a good reputation as a lawyer and be asked
to join a highly respected law firm with the rich clients. However, those who
have been working as a prosecutor for 10 or 15 years are probably not
interested. Being a good and experienced career prosecutor is a noble
profession.
