Hi folks,

If you remember the discussion over the above puzzle (and the use 
of qbasic in solving it and like challenges),  you may be 
interested to hear that one of my students has produced an 
alternative answer after some 30 years of challenging classes to 
find the `official' answer....

On checking, I found a set of 9 near-answers (the first four 
decimals met the letters, but were not repeating) nestling a 
working alternative.

I have yet to hear how this alternative was found, so expect a 
report on that soon ... after prize-giving (sob) ...
