VERY well said!

Because it sometimes a better tool than alternatives. Unless you treat
software development as religion you pick tools right for the task at hand.
The .NET Framework is a very good tool and developers select it when they
believe it is the best choice. This should be the same for _any_software
development tool.

So if it does and .net isn't needed then I'm still back to my original
question why use .Net.

They are. It doesn't. There are your answers.

I still disagree that you are trying to understand. Your interest is
shallow. You are focusing on buzz words and demonstrating that you don't
understand at all. Look no further than your message below.

Well you assumed incorrectly, I was trying to understand. John
Beckett was kind enough to provide an answer, which has led me to another
question (not necessarily for you as you seem to show no signs of changing
based upon your statements below).

Why isn't providing security and cleaning up memory stuff and garbage
collection part of the operating system itself?? Why does the operating
system need a software box to encapsulate these abilities for programs
running inside the box?

I'm not attacking you. At worst I targeted the one post in
answer to gary's question. I didn't answer his question because based on
his other posts I don't believe he really cares and I don't care enough to
suggest the obvious, visit www.microsoft.com and spend a minute looking for
an answer.

Okay, so then answer his question, rather than atacking me, that
would be
          the most helpful.

In this context nothing. bob's statement is pretty much the
same as
saying the java vm and class libraries are design for java
bytecodes.
          Meaningless and false.
