RW> JS> They WERE 11/32, not 5/16 which you insisted. You are just plain
RW> JS> WRONG. You are a tool and die guy? Go measure them!
RW>If they were still around here, I would...In fact I wish they were still
RW>around here, period.
There are MILLIONS of small block Chevy rods in the world ....
RW>I know I am..I don't BS anybody...
Uh huh ....
RW>If they're not 5/16, I still get an A+. If they truly were 11/32, then I
RW>owe you an apology, sorry...
Well, I don't think you get an A+ for being half wrong (but apology
accepted .... )
RW> JS> Although I still can't understand why anybody would put something
RW> JS> like that (mismatched rods) together, nor why a balance shop would do
RW> JS> anything but send it right back .....
RW>If you look in your wallet and find moths flying out at a time when you
RW>need to buy parts for your car, do you wait until you've got the cash or
o
RW>you improvise?
Well, I guess I have a different perspective. When I have a mixed bag of
parts, I would rather swap around pieces to get closer to a matched set
(and with Chevys that pretty easy to do .... ). I have nothing against
improvising, and when you have nothing to work with, you do what you
gotta do ....
RW>I improvised because of my low cash dilemma. BTW, those rods weren't
RW>available when I went to Chevy (c1970), I had no choice but to buy the 3/8
RW>bolted rods.
If I had a hand full of rare small bolt 350 rods (expensive), my
choice would have been to swap them for a full set of (used) big bolt
350 rods (cheap).....
RW>However, I did choose to use two like rods on the same journal. As it
RW>turned out, it was a good choice. No balancing was apparently needed, it
Well, my experience has been you can get away with running lighter rods
(in an overbalance condition) pretty easy, sorta like running a 350
crank in a 305, but it doesn't wotk so good the other way ....
RW>performed better than I had ever hoped it would... Just the expertise of
RW>an expert engine builder. Some got, some don't...
Uh, huh ....
RW> I did already, but I don't concede the rod bolt size until I prove it for
RW>myself..
Knock yourself out ....
