We bought a book from our vet that was great. When we bought our first bird
we knew nothing about them (big mistake)..you should always know what you're
getting yourself into when you get any new type of pet. I thought they'd be
easy to take care of and not very messy. Well I'm not one to keep my bird
caged so he got run of the house...potty training started immediately (after
all they go to the bathroom every 15 minutes approx.)- he is very lazy and
will go to the perch to poo about 1/2 the time. He makes quite the mess with
his food and always likes to throw some of it to the dog- bigger mess. He
always has to be on me...hanging from my hair to see what I'm doing, getting
into my mouth if I have food, etc. They do need a big commitment and the
parrots live to be anywhere from 85 to over 100 years old so they are like
having a 2 year old around for the rest of your life. Could you handle that?
But even at his worst, which is his screaming when the kids come in and
flying over to bite and terrorize them, I wouldn't ever get rid of him and
would get him again.
Blessed be,
