  Comment:  While The Cat's batting average will be lower, playing away
  from Coors Field most of his games (BUT he *DID* put up a batting average
  over .200 on the road last year), the move to replace McGriff with him
  MIGHT have been based on his defensive play!  He *IS* still a better
  #3 than McGriff.
  The Rockies might have been convinced to let Helton develop as a player
  for another year or two, IF Galarraga had been in a position to accept
  a shorter-term contract.  THIS was the reason HE went along with the
  move: Job Security, plain and simple.  His per-year earnings would have 
  been made the same, but there is a need to not let his eventual replacement
  stay on the bench too long, also. s
