Oh well... There's always more than one way to do anything. 
  
Actually, I wrote most of that code as part of a routine to dump a 
screen image to a dot-matrix printer with the image horizontal on the 
page. In screen memory, eight pixels that are adjacent horizontally are 
combined into each byte, but the printer demands bytes consisting of 
vertically-adjacent pixels. So a rotation effectively has to be done. 
It was trivial to modify the code to do a real rotation on the screen.
