Now I've got my 486 machine back online though it lacks some
hardware yet to be installed, no A drive, no CD-ROM, no sound card.
I've got all these but need to manage a bit at a time.
I _did_ unsolder the dead CMOS battery and ran some wires to a coin
cell from the off board uncharged terminals.
The 433 Celeron is coming along nicely after I discovered the
problem wasn't the Quantum 6.4 Gig drive but merely the ribbon cable!
Glad I saved the drive.
I found a source through the internet where one can buy
used and new in box ISA hardare internal 33600 - 56K
modems so my 486 will likely become a dual boot Win 3.1 - Linux
machine. Room for a second hard drive and hefty power supply too :-
Likely pick up a cheap used drive of a gig or 10 as second physical.
Lot's of people hate Packard Bells but this sucker is still going
strong nearly 11 years after purchase!
Boy talk about computing on the cheap :-)
