Hello again Rick,
I have been in the insurance business for many years. I met a
retired baseball player as we worked together. Frank Leja was the 1st
bonus baby in baseball. I guess they don't call them that any more. He
came up with the Yankees in 1954. He later played for the Cardinals
and appeared in several World Series. He was a local Massachusetts kid.
We use to tease him. We would tell him that it was his fault
that the Yankees didn't play in the World Series in 1954. They won
something like 1O3 games that year out of 154 total played.
Frank died at a young age. He was only 18 in 1954 and he has
been dead nearly ten years now. He suffered a heart attack at Logan
Airport.
