JP> Dole seems to be going out of his way to alienate his early backers in
JP> an effort to curry favor with the more moderate center.
The center will decide the election to a large extent. How much of the
far right moves to the third parties will also determine, to a lesser
extent, the out come.
JP> COULD it be turned around yet? Sure. Will it be turned around? So
JP> far, there's no evidence that Dole has a clue.
JP> Max, I'm aware that a lot can happen yet. Yet there's certainly good
JP> reason for pessimism at this point.
I think it's way too early to tell. Three weeks before the election will
be much more meaningful than three months. What comes out of the
conventions will be most important. IF Buchannon comes on board the Dole
train it will be a giant help, if he takes his folks elsewhere, it is a
major blow to Dole.
JP> Regardless, we still need to keep the Republicans in control of
JP> Congress. Best not to get so hung up over the Presidential race that
JP> we forget about the Congress.
Yep, altho my two guys who are up (Gramm and Armey) are in pretty good
shape.
