Besides the Active Protection app, I'm only using the Software Installer.
It is composed of an EXE and a couple of DLLs and uses the .NET framework.
It is more friendly, faster, and more reliable than the version that came
with the machine.

Me too, and it should have disable the MS wireless zero configuration stuff
upon installation. At any rate, I uninstalled the IBM app ("Access
Connections") almost immediately. It's been updated several times
since I got this machine, but I haven't tried the newer versions. I did
try a similar app provided by Intel in their
generic driver kit for the 2200bg mobile connection (trying ot solve
connectivity problems that were ultimately resolved by dumping WPA), but
prefer the built in management tuff.

It looks good in theory, you can save profiles for various places you work
and pick the one you need, but it seemed a bit unpredictable in my very,
very brief experience with it.

I'm guessing that you can, but I have no idea what HD password stuff you mean?

That reminds me, I need to buy a warranty upgrade for this thing. It came
with 1 year, I want to add 2.
