 FG> RK> PACKET, PACTOR, G-TOR or CLOVER??? I am
FG> RK>hopeing that you have copied commercial or military stations
 FG> anywhere RK>in the world???
FG> Reid I have found quite a few commercial stations running Pactor in
FG> the 8mhz region. Also some in the 16mhz and 17mhz range. Some are
FG> clearly maritime as evident by their traffic.
Howdy Frank, I relplied to you over on Ham_Tech and had forgot you
also monitor US here, sorry! Anyway I need to find out more on these
logs!!! I had a feeling that someone was using Pactor and or Clover on
Marine Bands and I might just know who it is! Might be a guy named
Peter Detwiler (spelling incorrect and I forgot his ham call sign).
Also it might be someone else? Possibly guys over in Germany? I have
discovered that the FCC and the Canadian Governments have approved
Clover and Pactor but I do not know which bands or freqs yet? Please
keep the info comming on anything you find!!! Thanks.
FG> Christmas Eve a freighter was sending a seemingly endless string of
FG> holiday FG> messages to Rio on 8734 khz Pactor. High speed at that.
 Very FG> strong signal.
I bet this was a Ham maybe having a bit of holiday cheer?
 FG> I didn't make a hard copy so I don't recall the ID. I never did hear
 FG> an ID
FG> from the shore station....I am of the opinion from the traffic between
 FG> the
FG> greetings this was a station operated by the shipping firm, not a
 FG> regular
 FG> coastal station.
I have some info that you might be hearing this comms from coast
stations but this is still a bit premature. If you happen to log
these stations again please let me know?
FG> Military communications with Pactor have been heard in the 13mhz range
 FG> around
FG> 13.443. These are in open English. Signals are very weak and
 FG> without my
FG> DSP 59+ filter I wouldn't be able to pull them through. The text is
 FG> the usual
 FG> circuit checks/etc.
FG> Only commercial Gtor I have encountered was on 2294.5 and it was in
 FG> French.
FG> Have no idea who or what....except could tell there were lists of
 FG> what appeared
FG> to be part numbers with prices in francs. Rather strong at one end so
 FG> would
FG> guess from band conditions it was coming out of South America.
This is interesting, I am a bit surprised to say the least. I
recently found out what the band width of G-tor is and discovered
it is far to wide to be used at least on coast stations and possibly
by other stations? Also its a lot slower then the other new protocals.
Thanks for the catch. If you discover anymore traffic on G-tor keep me
posted.
FG> Heard some Clover traffic but think it was AF
FG> MARS...unauthorized...with a couple of guys just checking out their new
 FG> boards.
    Mars does not count, sorry.
 FG> That's a few. Do I win a map? Hi!
Actually you do!!! However I have a new problem. After 7 months of
really hard work MCI has decided to not expand their coast stations
but devest them. So this means I will not be getting any maps soon,
but I will still try to see if I can still get them. Sorry if I am
unable to. However I have someother things that are looking up
and maybe all is not lost. I will have to type out a full explanation
and do a post to all about this soon. Right now I am way behind in my
mail and as soon as I get caught up I will do a more then very
interesting post and explain what I have been up to, what happened and
whats next!
 FG> 73, de K0JPJ ex-W5PVX ...-.-
FG> PS: Was monitoring some German hams the other night that have the new
 FG> Pactor
FG> II....when they switched over to it from regular Pactor I was
 FG> unable to copy
FG> in any mode at this end! So guess another goodie to want.
Now you really have my interest!!! I do not know what you know
about Pactor II, but thanks to AEA Electronics I know quite a lot
AEA will be doing an announcement in April regarding AEA's new
Pactor II stuff. This is still confidental ok so do not go asking AEA
to tell you about it yet, please! I should be able to monitor Pactor
finally, AEA is sending me a test chip so that I can also monitor
Pactor. I am not sure if they are sending me one of the New Beta Chips
yet but I hope to have one or two soon. Anyway where did you copy the
German traffic? was it on Ham or commmerial bands??? Any info will be
appreciated!
Anyway as you probably know from other sources Pactor II was
developed by Dr. Tom Rink, DL2FAK and Hans-Peter-Helfert, DL6MAA
at SCS Communictions over in Hanav, Germany. There is a really great
technical artical in Jan. "DIGITAL JOURNAL!" Rather technical to say
the least but great info, non-the-less. Pactor II will replace Clover
as it is faster (if you can believe that) and also allows full color
VGA graphics etc etc. I honestly now believe that Pactor II will
revoluitonalize HF digital radio!!! Pactor II has a much smaller
bandwidth then Clover and unlike clover you do not need an internal
board but can use an extrenal device connected to a com port. This is
really important to laptop users worldwide!!!
