That one that comes on the w98 install floppy sure seems to work with a lot
of stuff...

Funny you should mention Acer,  as that's the one I started with in this
machine (a 4x).  When it started to give me a lot of read errors,  I
swapped it out for a Goldstar 8x,  which is still in there,  and switched
to the above-mentioned driver and it's been just fine ever since.
