ED> Having confronted Dr. Evil, Artimus Brown, International Man Of
 ED> Mystery, exclaimed:

AB> I discovered that the stardate for Space Seed was 3141.9 and the
AB> stardate for Catspaw was 3018.2 Another influance to do this was when
ED> Actually a simpler explanation is that Chekov was on board but we
ED> just never saw him until "Catspaw". Another Chekov example is in "The
ED> Deadly Years" in which Chekov understood Kirk's reference to
 ED> `Corbomite'.
True. And can also be said with the Stardate ordering. As well,
as saying he was on shore leave in the episodes he wasn't in.
AB> TNG started putting episodes in stardate order as well as prodution
AB> order starting with it's second season.
ED> Which unfortunately does not validate the use of stardates for
 ED> continuity purposes in TOS.
Which again comes down to a difference of prefrence.
ED> Also, if you noticed, that when stardates have been used in DSN,
ED> there have been many times they been out of order.

This due to being shown out of prodution order. The only exception
being "If Wishes Were Horses" which had a much later stardate to those
surrounding it.
AB> I also stated, later in my posts, that there was even a problem
AB> with TNG stardates concerning the death of Tasha Yar. When she died,
AB> it put a crink in the stardate timeline as well. This, you will see I,
AB> got around. You can get around this problem the same way if you wish
AB> or, go by the production codes.
ED> The stardates with "Skin Of Evil" and "Symbiosis" were out of
 ED> order?
Yes they are. In both stardate order and order shown. Tasha is
seen in "Symbiosis".
ED> Did not notice that, of course in that case the switching of
ED> production codes was due to Denise Crosby leaving the show. In that
ED> case the order shown is in fact the correct order, at it is with DSN
 ED> and VOY.
Not true with VOY. The last few episodes of season one were held
over for season two and were shown mixed in with the new season two
episodes.
AB> Also, if you go just by prodution codes for all of Star Trek, you
AB> will see several problems arise in TNG that I can think of right away.
AB> One being Unification II's prodution code is 207 and Unification I's
AB> is 208. There are other instances in TNG such as this as I'm sure there
AB> is in DSN and VOY as well. You may even see this in TOS somewhere.
ED> The main difference between TOS and it's modern counterparts was
ED> that TOS did not necessarily needed to be shown in order, only five
ED> episode make any reference to other episodes in the series. Often the
ED> network picked and choose which episodes aired as opposed airing them
 ED> as they get them.
So, why argue about the way I order them altogether rather than
just the five? I made allowances for Tasha's death in season one of
TNG. I can do the same for these five in TOS.
ED> The modern series has continuity between each episode and thus are
ED> made to be shown in a particular order. When there is a scheduling
ED> conflict then productions codes get out of order but they are still
ED> aired in the intended order.

But, the aguement isn't about the production codes. It's about the
stardates. For the most part, with the newer series, the prodution order
and stardate order coincide.
AB> The main thing is, I looked at all of Star Trek as a whole or, more
AB> plainly, as a contuation from one to the next. I'd rather think of
AB> them that way than seperate entities since they do have strong
AB> conections to each other, even the Animated series.
 ED> Even "The Infinite Vulcan"?

In broad terms, yes. Just the fact that the original crew is there.
AB> You have a method that works for you and I have one that works for
AB> me and that's just fine. I have no arguments on any method. Nobody's
AB> right and nobody's wrong. It's just a matter of what way you want to
 AB> do things.
ED> Yeah, but my way is so much simpler....

Again, no need to argue on this. Each person has his/her own way
no matter how complicated or simple it may seem to someone else.
AB> Thanks for pointing this detail out to me. It has been noted in my
 AB> files.
ED> Interested in the other three TOS episodes with references with
 ED> previous episode references?
As I don't have all of TOS on hand, yes I would. In fact, if you
wouldn't mind, how about listing all five with what episode they
reference back to?
     Thanks,
   Artimus
