Yes it was... The 8088 was code compatable with it, the others
contain extension of those codes...

The 80186 is an 8086 packages with a timer, dma, int controller,
i/o decode, memory decode, and contained additional opcodes.
The 8 bit version was the 80188.
Both were sold as imbedded processor types and not for the standard
computer fare. However, IBM did use these in controller applications.
