Hi Piels NP> Reading your messages about binoculars prompted me to go and get mine out NP> of the car. They are 20 x 50 (field 3 degrees). It wasn't until then NP> that I discoverd another hole in memory. I used to know, but I can't for NP> the life of me remember what the 20 and the 50 stand for. NP> I know one number is the magnification NP> A quick refresher would be appreciated if possible 20 is magnification, 50 is main lens diameter in millimetres. NP> Would my binocs be OK for sky looking? They'll be ok for stargazing, if a little high powered - you may have trouble holding them steady. See if you can mount them on a tripod or similar, or rest them on a bar slung across a couple of chair backs, so you can sit comfortably while viewing. Jupiter and 2 or 3 of its moons should be visible on a dark night, and Omega Centauri should be easy as well.
