Greetings Alexander!
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Alexander Bilan wrote to Don Guy:

That's what I was trying to say. :-)

I've seen a couple of these up here, too. I usually encounter one of them on
Hwy.15 if I'm heading between here and Carleton Place. They're not
particularly subtle--they're the only dark brown Tauruses I've ever seen with
multiple antenna masts.

Nice. :-/ I wonder if he ever heard of the term "entrapment?"

Oh, nothing special--I'm just playing with the Acadian ('81).
A friend form work let me take the manual four-speed from his '83 before
scrapping the remnants of it--I grew up with a stick shift, and this was just
too good a chance to pass up.
Narry a problem making the switch from the automatic, save for a bunch of
running around *after* I took everything apart and didn't have a vehicle. :)
I knew I'd need a different driveshaft (manual is ~6" shorter than the auto),
but forgot to specify four or five-speed when I called the boneyard.
Naturally I didn't realize that I had the wrong shaft until I tried to
install the new one.
A slightly different shape in a tranny mount caught me by surprise. Spell one
more another trip up to the wrecker's.
The only PITA were the bolts holding the old driveplate to the crank. Two of
'em came out with little grunting, while the other four required the rental
of an impact wrench for all of 30min (if you include the trip to get it and
taking it back).
The impact wrench was a neat critter. I'd resigned myself to renting a small
compressor & a pneumatic wrench, but the rental place had an electric
version!
The little beastie went back on the road Thursday... Is it ever nice having a
real gearshift again. :-)
