Sounds like IBM screwed something up between the T30 and T42. You =
don't say what further properties it is to which you refer but it sounds =
like the adapter specific properties which is controlled by the adapter =
device driver and hardware.

Doesn't IBM offer an option like that offered by other manufactures =
to turn off the wireless without having to tell Windows to disable the = device?

  On a thinkpad T30 Windows 2000 allows me to enable/disable/enable with =
just that one change. On a T42 with XP, when I try to enable, I have to =
go further into properties and enable the radio as well as the adaptor. =
On the same T42 with W2K it works like the T30.

This is exactly what I described. It disables the adapter. =
Enable it to reverse. Nothing else needs to be done to enable it. You =
claimed you had to enable the radio elsewhere. That sounds like a = device
specific problem. I have never had to do this with any wireless = adapter.

What are you whining about? Windows doesn't have a checkbox =
for enabling or disabling wireless. It sounds like you disabled the =
wireless adapter which is the right thing to do on many laptops. It's =
what I did until I got a laptop with a switch on the case to disable the =
radio. Enabling the adapter turned everything back on. Even on the =
laptop with the switch it behaves this way. If you have a laptop that =
didn't do that then I expect you have an issue with the adapter or the =
adapter driver.

and it has spent every day since then slowly changing things =
back when you
          aren't looking...

Latest change I found, if you go into my network places =
properties and
disable wireless on a laptop, when you re-enable it the =
hardware is turned
off, what the heck is that all about? On W2K I can just =
enable/disable at
will and one undoes the other but with XP to enable it again I =
have to first
enable then go find the stupid hardware setting and change the =
radio back to
          ON..

          Geo.
