I need to know what filking funds/organizations are out there. I know
there's a list in the FAQ, but it doesn't really say which ones accept
donations, or what they do with thier money.
And while we are on the subject of organizations...
One day as I was making a "best off" tape from my filk tapes, I wondered
that if, in a situation like filk where old stuff goes out of print
easily, and so forth, it would be possible to set up a copyright/royalty
clearinghouse for filk, where if you wanted to give your friend a copy
of a tape, or certain songs off a tape, or the lyrics to a song, or
whatever, you could look up a list (or later publications would include
the information) that says, to copy this tape send ?$ and the name of
the tape, or ??c/song, and the name of the song and the source it was
copied off to us,(?c per copy of lyrics, ?x2c per copy of lyrics and
music?) and we will redistribute it to the applicable
publishers/producers and artists.
Sort of a "shareware" philosophy of royalties.
The same place could act as a central organization for clearing
preformance permissions and so forth.
What do you think?
Kinda hard on the current distributers, maybe. :(
