ml>ml>RN> You've never heard of D'Bridge?

ml>ml> i wasn't aware that it purged by DATE when tossing new messages... if
ml>ml> it does, it is the only one that i've ever heard of doing such... all
ml>ml> the others that i'm aware of only purge by number DURING tossing...

ml>RN> You're given the option of purging messages by date or number of
ml>RN> messages.

ml> yes, that is common in all message maint tools...

Then I must have misread what you wrote above. (-: An example from
Packet/Mail Conrtol is as follows:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
PACKET MAIL CONTROL / AUTOPURGE

Auto purge messages in unpacking? No

When you answer YES to this question, D'Bridge will automatically purge
your message forums of old messages (based on the criteria you define)
when new mail arrives. If you answer NO, you will need to use DBUTIL PURGE
to do this. The default setting is NO.

Message areas with no purge criteria obviously will not be purged.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

ml>RN> I like to do them by date, with a couple of areas not of
ml>RN> interest to me being purged daily and the rest every three days, as
ml>RN> I explained before.

ml> right... i do the same except that i have chosen 730 days as the criteria
ml> in most of my areas... some have 0 for their parameter which means they
ml> never get purged...

At my age, I can't plan THAT far ahead. (-: Just who is going to read
your areas with a 0 parameter if you can't?

ml>RN> If memory serves, there is a setting in D'Bridge that will allow
ml>RN> the tossing and purging to occur whenever mail is received. I'll
ml>RN> get back to you on that.

ml> several mail tossing packages do have such a setting but i've never been
ml> aware of it working on areas maintained by date... what would be the
ml> reason? the first toss of the day would purge the old messages and then
ml> it would very possibly be a wasted process for the rest of the day...

See example above between the lines. It must be remembered that a genius
designed D'Bridge and we were lucky enough to have another genius take it
over and keep it current.

Roger

... I'm pretty cool, Beavis, but I can't change the future...
