subject: Parakeet Confusion

I'm a bit confused about the best room in which to keep my
parakeets' cage.

I've had one of my birds for about 10 years. Her cage has always been
in the living room, and she's always been a healthy, happy bird. Not
too long ago I bought a second keet, who had minor health problems.
Everything turned out fine, but the vet didn't support the idea of
keeping birds in the living room, stating that noises from TV can
startle them and that they often don't get the needed 12 hours sleep.
In regards to the sleep issue, I asked if I could simply move their
cage into another room at nightfall. He believed that the constant
moving about would be too stressful for the keets.

My vet is pretty well-respected when it comes to birds, so I took his
advice and moved my parakeets to a spare bedroom adjacent to the living
room. There's a small radio in there for them to listen to when I'm
out. Even though I regularly pop in to talk and interact with them, it
seems odd not having them around me and my family all the time. Now I
wonder if they are really better off in this arrangement, versus the
way things used to be. Obviously, if it truly is better for their
health and well-being to remain in the spare room, then that's fine,
as that's what really matters to me.

Thanks,
