Hi Sara! My soapmaking is going extremely well! It is a fun and
interesting project. I'm even thinking of getting a booth at my
local craft fair this summer, which means I like soap making so
much I will be making it constantly for the next few months!
There really isn't much to be concerned with about the lye. I've
reserved special soap making tools (there really aren't that
many supplies neccessary and they are all inexpensive) and wear
rubber gloves when handling the lye. I make sure my kids and
pets aren't going to bother me while I'm working with it and I
make sure they don't get into my supplies while I'm not working
with it. Everything has been labeled with permanent marker so
my husband won't get confused (you know how easy it is to confuse
the men). The time spent working with the lye is minimal so if
that's all that's holding you back from this wonderful craft,
don't worry about it. And get making soap! Can I ask what book
you'll be using? "The Complete Soapmaker" by Norma Coney is the
one I am using and it is clear, concise, and has wonderful recipes!
Enjoy,
Christina
