Worth highlighting.

If you put the log on the same disk [array] as the data, then you
effectively insert one (possibly two) disk seek times and rotational
latencies into each and every transaction.

I learned of this when I was beta-testing SQL Server 1.0 back in the
'80's.  The Sybase admin who was training us said it was one of his most
important set up guidelines.
