Here in Rochester,NY at the store I work part time at,2" Zebra plecos go for 
$35 - $40 (depends on importer price). I picked up a couple at that price 
about 2 years or so ago (still doing fine). While in Erie,PA at the Falls 
Fish Festival,a local dealer had a table in the lobby with 2 tanks on it: one 
had 2 rare salt water fish,the other had 2 2" Zebra Plecos. I inquired if 
they were able to be purchased. Price was $29.95 each. Both were purchased 
and taken home after the Convention was over. They are supposed to be a 
pair,so I'm hoping. Currently with 4 of them,I hopefully can get something 
going.
When they first arrived in the pet trade,they were indeed quite scarce. Saw 
some at a fish farm tour and the wholesale price then (1989) was $125. The 
dealer would have to sell those for $350 - $400!
