Becky,
Thank you, but even making just one room "bird safe" would still entail
some major reconstrution work. And the birds would still have to be
housed somewhere else during that time.
After something that had happened with a previous 'Tiel I am very
reluctant to house my birds with anyone. I was moving and temporarily
staying some place that did not allow pets of ANY kind until my new home
was ready. So my 'Tiel was staying with an Aunt and Uncle. They never
allowed my 'Tiel out of his cage. With me he was used to spending 99% of
his time out of his cage. And only going there to eat or drink, and to
sleep at night.
I can only guess that one of two things had happened. That is that he
either got a case of night frights and caught his right wing in the
horizontals of his cage dislocating his wing. Or he was trying to get
some exercise and again got his right wing caught in the horizontals of
his cage dislocating his wing. I'd taken him to an avian vet, where it
cost me $100.00 to have him X-Rayed, and his wing set.
Sadly his wing NEVER healed properly, and he was disabled, and unable to
fly. The only "good" thing about his situation is/was that because of
that I did NOT have to clip his wings anymore.
You do make some very good and valid points, and it would be nice if more
people thought as you do. What everyone needs to remember is that what
works for them isn't always going to work for someone else. And being as
this is my Grandmother's house I have to take her into consideration as to
the changes I make around here.
