-> Bill, I use Couriers myself. There's nothing mystical about them, or
-> any other modem, when it comes to compression and CPS rates. I
-> believe you stated that the file was compressed about 45% with ZIP,
-> that it was about five megs and that you obtained about 4400cps
-> while transfering it.
Hi Bill,
I don't think I stated that the Courier is "mystical", just that
these were the particular modems that were connected. Not that it would
matter... I have seen great speeds out of "white box" OEM modems... the
only thing was that they couldn't hold the connection as well as this
Courier.
-> It depends on what was contained in that zip file, text files, like
The file consisted mainly of programming... exe's, com files and the
like. some of the files were highly compressed, while others barely
acheived any compression whatsoever.
I'm not here trying to debunk the status quo here.... obviously there
are many here that have more "gray matter" regarding modem connections
and the technical knowledge surrounding the same. I just use the things
to do what I want them to do. I know what to buy... and (seeing as I
build computers as a hobby) know where and how to get these at rock
bottom prices.
Thanks,
Bill Cooper
