That's a great way to go about it. Just remember, you don't need animation mode
whatsoever (unless you actually want to display an animated screen). I have
never really been one to make use of MPL, and have been able to do just about
anything with the menu editor and/or string editor. To be honest, if there's
something you _can't_ do with the menu/string editors without MPL, I haven't
found it, nor needed it yet. ;)
