There are two ways to authenticate with a mail server, one is smtpauth
which I bet mailmax doesn't do. The other is called pop-b4-smtp which
basically is just logging in to get your mail and the server then allows
your IP address to send mail for the next few minutes.
So if you have an email client program running on the mailmax machine,
mailmax can send because of popb4smtp, but soon as you shut down that email
client program or if you try to run mailmax a while after the email client
has checked the mail, then it fails because it's no longer authenticated.
set the email client to check mail once a minute and see if the errors stop.
