Incidentally, a friend of mine who happens to hail from the Netherlands says 
that over there it's called a "Chinese auction."  :-)
If you don't mind that you're buying stuff that is no longer top of the line, 
RS's discontinued stuff is great when you don't have unlimited funds (which 
some scanner reviews seem to think we have).
