Garak actually would be more at home in the John Le Carre spy
world. His novels show spies as less than glamourous, often without any
moral compass, and having to rely on what few wits they have left than
on tech gadgets.
Remember Garak's bemused reaction to the Bond-type fantasy in "Our
Man Bashir": "I think I joined the wrong service."
