Uniden makes some good scanners, but only if you want just what the scanner 
comes with, and don't intend to try to add more features by hack or expansion 
board.  Most of Bearcat's scanners are made by Uniden, which also makes most 
of the Radio Shack scanners.  I haven't gotten to play with any Regency 
scanners.
The scanners I've had the most experience with are Radio Shack scanners, 
simply because there's a Radio Shack in every town and they've got a liberal 
loan policy.  Er, return policy.  :-)  The better RS scanners are made by 
GRE, which tend not only to have more features but also are easier to hack.
... There's a whole generation of people out there my age.
