With exception of balanced columns, they are stable. But you shouldn't put 
tabs and indents in inappropriate places ...
The balanced columns have sometimes the problem that the second (or later) 
column starts one line below what is intended. Shift-F8, 4, 1, 1 ... 
(accepting the bug, just negating its consequences) is the afaik best way to 
fix that. The problem often occurs when a graphic (partially) overlays the 
text.
