I'm sure by now you've seen the post where I mentioned putting ice cubes
in the brooder. I didn't WANT to do this--it went against every
baby-raising instinct I have. In discussions/literature concerning
handfeeding, all you usually hear about is "keep the baby warm", not
keep the baby on ice...
>For your basement, might I recommend a dehumidifier?
Well, our basement has all glass block windows, and it usually stays
naturally about 10-15 degrees cooler than the upstairs. We use it as a
refuge when the weather gets too warm.
I DO have a dehumidifier; it's only 3 years old. When I ran it, while it
DID take out a bunch of water, it kicked out so much waste heat that it
made the basement 10+ degrees HOTTER than the upstairs. All the birds
down there went into a mid-breeding season molt, and the basement was
intolerable for US. So I stopped using it, unless I begin seeing mildew
appear on walls down there. It's currently acting as a corner table...
> I now have one and it does wonders!!
Must be something to do with differences in the home constructions, I'd
guess. Our basement holds heat too well, it seems.
