Seems like every new machine MUST have some sort of flaw to correct, doesn't
it--on the clone side, I mean!

There have been 'a few' improvements, speed and otherwise, since the old
Amigas raised the platform about 10 floors.  ;-)

Thanks for the offer, but I don't have any Zip drives.  Is it equally
convenient to put on a CD?  The Zips are handy but not having need of that
size storage I simply haven't acquired one.

Do have card readers and a 256meg card.  Not currently using the Nikon
folder system due to flaky computer reactions with things USB, but should be
able to transfer the data from a CD to the card without problems.  It is
pretty fast and usually the machine will stay up longer than that transfer
would require.
