I had no idea what "monad" meant. Another post on Slashdot gave
the following two links by way of explanation:

Warning: I'm pretty sure that trying to understand the second of these
would be injurious to anyone's health. I have spent five minutes reading
about Haskell before, and whereas it has some interesting aspects, it is
extremely weird.
