Maybe it'd be best just to have them copy the proxy client install files to
their local drives (or burn CDs for them).  That way they can reinstall at
will without pestering you for the install media.

I know that's not much help, but I always had trouble using an MSP
client-equipped PC when outside my company domain.  It's been over five
years, but as I recall I had to boot the machine unconnected from any
network, then plug in a network cable and do an ipconfig release/renew to
get an address at hotels with high-speed internet.  I could then browse,
but even then some things didn't work very well.
