Well if your side is working correctly the users end should start 
automatically... Also the person that may also be able to help would be 
Deuce he runs a nix board (Synchronet) but he is part author of SEXYZ or 
maybe able to help you with a linux solution...

Can you try the sz or rz that coms with linux? and try a simialr 
commandline to a regular DSZ protocol...
