you've indeed been very patient ;-))

never change a running ......

I fully agree, I really looked for the parameters to set, but I don't
think there are any, there must be a lot of debugging code left in the
executable, cause Robert has sure done a good job on his new baby.
here we go, my test results:
I'm using a 80486/33 machine with 16 MB RAM and
the directory I did the tests on had
       68 file(s) 18.221.562 Byte in it
.EXE
       17 file(s) 3.074.916 Byte
.COM
        2 file(s) 12.551 Byte
.OV*
        1 file(s) 50.544 Byte
.DLL
       19 file(s) 3.124.847 Byte
.HL*
       10 file(s) 9.931.886 Byte
If anyone likes to do it all over again on his/her own computer, it's the
Borland Delphi ..\BIN directory I used for testing
1. PKZip with option -eX
P-TEST ZIP 10.420.626 29.10.96 22.50
sorry, no time information, got lost somewhere

2. ARJ with option -m1 (default)

P-TEST ARJ 10.493.528 29.10.96 22.57

3. RAR with option Solid-Archive

------------------------------------
4. UC2 with option Tight compression

P-TEST UC2 10.343.742 29.10.96 23.14
------------------------------------
5. Limit with option -mx
7 minutes; 53 seconds
P-TEST LIM 10.381.666 29.10.96 23.22

6. JAR with option -m4
19 minutes; 18 seconds
P-TEST J 10.277.674 29.10.96 23.42
So, come on Robert, there's a lot of things to be done ;-)
Have a nice day, Lars!
