Hi!,
I'm pissed a little bit.
I found few computers that:
- or Microsoft Update cannot be installed - it freezes.
- checking for updates forever
- downloaded and installed WGA, installed updates (event log), now doinf
this again for same WGA and same updates for third time ?!?!
- downloaded and installed updates (event log said that), now again
downloading and it is on 8% for day and a half ?!
+ on machines that have auto download but notify for install, there is no
chance to get updates without WGA, maybe on download and install
automatically You can update non Genuine windows, not sure.
This is stupid + active IE_s which are used on those machines stop
responding when WGA is being checked ?! On a slow lines, after minute,
everything is unblocked after.
The little yellow shield in the right corner of the bar when performing the
auto download .. man, that is one to fear! :) Windows update tells me that
I have 3 updates to download and install. Ok, lets say that little Yellow
Shield is downloading and it is {at} 60%. On Win. Upd. I click to download the
updates because I Can Not Get Little Yellow Shield To Show Me What Is It
Downloading ?! And what I get ?! Some kind of a corruption, because I
cannot install the updates, I need to again download em, but rather wait
for autodownload to complete (and then there is a event log record).
Also, if You have SUS in Your envio., some machines that have download and
schedule install, but you log on earlier and want to install the patches
manually, what then ? You can sit and wait for a little Globe to show in
the right corner of the bar ?! It should be up if logged in as an Admin,
but not as a second admin through let say term. services., in 'bout 20
minutes. What about desktops on which it aint showing in that time ?!
Shoudl wait forever
? any update.exe /switch ?! wuauclt.exe /switch to invoke install dialog ?!
On some machines I invoked WinKey + Pause/Break and clicked on
"Automatc Updates" tab and Globe showed, but on some desktops
this aint working (on Win2K it is not working in any case).
Ok, this was painful, now need to summarize given and find ways of
buletproof updating.
This become more painful then updating plain and simple Linux/Distro*
machine, not become, it is for quite some time now - somebody point
"flexibility" - can someone show me ?!
Note: the cases above are found on only few machines, still, update process
must be direct, flexible, instant, always possible, always *manageble !!!*,
not *addicted!!!* for Internet Explorer (cmd.exe is almost always
working!).
Hell.
Enjoy all.
