Ma> New Year? Isn't that last fall? (Jewish New Year) Or is it coming up
Ma> in Feb. or March sometime? (Chinese New Year) I always preferred
Ma> these New Year's celebrations as they use Lunar calendars and I am a
Ma> bit of a lunatic myself. (GRIN)
You forgot Samhain...
Ma> Have a happy, healthy New Year's yourself. Sober New Year's eves -
Ma> now that's an experience only an alcoholic or their family truly seems
Ma> to be able to appreciate.
Very true. In most places a sober New Year's would be an oxymoron...:)
Ma> The funniest New Year's eve "celebration" I ever partook of was when a
Ma> friend decided to join my Church - she got baptized on New Year's eve
Ma> and asked me to speak. I brought up my sobriety and AA and said if
Ma> anyone doens't believe in miracles, let me tell you that my being here
Ma> SOBER and speaking about faith in a Power greater than myself on New
Ma> year's eve is a miracle. I also told them that if anyone had told me
Ma> ten years before that was where I'd be I'd have told them they were
Ma> full of something stinky and yucky. THEN at the end of the baptism,
Ma> during the closing prayer, all of a sudden we all heard this sythetic
Ma> version of Jingle Bells. You know like the musical greeting cards?
Ma> well that's what it sounded like. So I ended up holding my breathe
Ma> and then coughing violently so as not to laugh my head off until the
Ma> prayer was done. It turned out that one of the young missionary elders
Ma> (there's an oxymoron for you) had been given a tie that played Jingle
Ma> Bells and when he bowed his head, he had bowed a little too low
Ma> (falling asleep maybe? And when I had SPOKEN! The nerve! G R I N !)
Ma> and set it off, but couldn't get it to stop. It was hysterical, but
Ma> maybe you had to be there. (So much for reverence in that service,
Ma> believe me!)
That sounded like it was a very funny experience...We need laughter.
Ma> Anyway, that's the most unusual and funniest New Year's I had in
Ma> sobriety. Maybe it will inspire others on here to share there
Ma> experiences with humorous episodes on sober holidays.
I had many sober holidays that were spent at AA New Year's Eve Partys.
Nothing funny but just a very good feeling that my husband and all our
friends could have such a good time dancing and enjoying a party sober..
