In order to use that radio it will have to be programmed (by a service shop) 
for the trunking system and fleets and subfleets that you want to listen to 
or transmit on.  The radio may also be capable of being programmed for 
conventional 800 MHz frequencies - some models were - others weren't.  The 
MTX800 is capable of using Motorola Type I trunking only.
  
This radio will only "work" with a *system* (trunked repeater) that it it is 
programmed to work with.  It will not transmit or receive otherwise.  
(Except, as I say if it is capable of and programmed for conventional 
frequencies.)
