In 1994, the following constitutional declaration of rights was
enacted by the voters. The amendment added the second sentence
to the preexisting first sentence:
Constitution of the State of Alaska
Article I. Declaration of Rights
Section 19. Right to Keep and Bear Arms
A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a
free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall
not be infringed. The individual right to keep and bear arms
shall not be denied or infringed by the State or a political
subdivision of the State.
