i recently submitted a master tape for CD pressing to a production house
which i falsely believed to have Sonic Solution's excellent noise
reduction software. not time or money to send it elsewhere now, so i'm
living with the noise, but thinking about algorithms to write my own
digital noise reduction.
i've looked in my electrical engineering textbook at several methods,
but they all require a periodic signal, which audio isn't since it's
constantly changing, millisecond by millisecond.
so does anyone have expertise in this? the noise in my case is
background hiss, unfilterable using EQ, of course. there's gotta be a
DSP book somewhere that covers this, anybody know?
