Someone will correct me if I am wrong, I don't believe that D2 and D3 have 
good serial port access.  I am sure it could be done via API calls.  Thought 
of trying to go that route isn't very appealing.  There are several 
freeware/shareware VCL/ActiveX products out there that can be used by Delphi 
to allow easy access to the serial ports.  My personal favorite is Async 
Professional from TurboPower.  This isn't a shareware VCL, but is VCL none 
the less, and very powerful and easy to use.  You can DL a trial version from 
there web site www.turbopower.com.
