-> RG> Not that the officer did anything correct, but what happened

-> Nothing, because the tapes were the official police
-> recordings which are fairly easy to get transcripts of
-> and to get copies of when your lawyer fills out the
-> right paper work. The person with the scanner who
-> heard the transmission contacted the defence lawyer who
-> then filled out all the necessary paper work and got a
-> copy of the tape which he played for the judge.
RG> I'm truly surprised that flew in court. The knowledge of
RG> the radio transmission was still obtained illegally. The
RG> lawyer would have to tell, in court, that he obtained the
RG> tape recordings after a third party who heard them over the
RG> radio passed the information along.
Got me hanging. I didn't go to the trial so I don't
know how it was handled. AFAIK, it might have been an
anonymous tip. I got my info from the newspaper (not
the most reliable or thorough source).
RG> Again, not that the officer didn't have it coming...
Makes me wonder how much of this MIGHT be going on in
areas with scrambled radios that we will never know
about.
