DT>I wonder....perhaps though there is a way to convince the courts that

I can only speak for our school - we have some segments of phys ed that
are single sex (football, wrestling, etc.) and many that are not
(gymnastics, softball, etc.) I think that the amount of physical
contact is the determining element.
DT>If in math period one with Mr. Algebra was for males only, then period 2

I do believe that Matt Smith was on the money with his analysis of this
problem - public schools will most likely not be allowed to provide
"separate but equal" classes based on such discriminating criteria as
sex, race, or religion. In the case of The Citadel and VMI, as I
understand it, Virginia was willing to compromise by making VMI into
either a mixed sex military school or an all-female military school, but
the courts still considered that discrimination as long as The Citadel
was not available to women. The whole argument is similar to that waged
by many southern states in the 50's and 60's, that they provided
separate but equal education for blacks. Obviously the courts disagreed
that such was equal treatment under the law.
But this is all just my take on the issue.
