Greater Cleveland Robotics Teams Honored by Mayor Campbell
The City of Cleveland will welcome to the City Hall Rotunda at 10
a.m. on Monday, May 12, local teams who participated in the second
annual Buckeye Regional FIRST Robotics Competition held in Cleveland
earlier this year.
Students, teachers and robots will gather to receive recognition from
Mayor Jane L. Campbell and to demonstrate for the Mayor how the
robots were used in the competition.
There will also be remarks from John Hairston, director of External
Programs at NASA Glenn Research Center, and Jerry Sue Thornton,
president of Cuyahoga Community College. Glenn and Tri-C are among
the corporations, educational institutions and organizations
throughout the Greater Cleveland area that sponsored the regional
competition.
Teams from three Cleveland Municipal School District schools will be
present: Max S. Hayes Vocational High School, who were the Regional
Competition Champions; East Technical High School, who won the
Regional Chairman's Award; and John Ford Rhodes High School.
Greater Cleveland teams who competed will also be present. They are
Beachwood, Bedford, Cleveland Heights and Fairview High Schools.
The Buckeye Regional was held on March 6-8 at the Cleveland State
University Convocation Center. This regional competition was part of
the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)
Robotics Competition, an international program dedicated to
increasing interest in science and engineering and inspiring in young
people, their schools, and communities an appreciation of science and
technology.
