* EleBBS Support List
The easiest thing to do, when installing the BBS is make sure you ALWAYS use
unzip -L file.zip. This forces all files to be unzipped as
lowercase. Dos always uses lowercase letters in it's files. (even
tho they look uppercase in some versions of dos) Dos does not use
uppercase letters ever.
Linux/Unix users are aware of case sensitivity. It's a part of life
and you use it to your advantage. example.bat, EXAMPLE.BAT,
example.BAT and EXAMPLE.bat. and any other variants are ALL different
files. The problem comes when cross compiling a dos application to
linux. Example of problems I continualy face.
you have a q and a file called yesno.q-a in your questions folder.
Well internaly in the code we may have something like
if exists "yesno.q-a" then fancypause else pause
this would work just fine, now what happens if program has is caps lock on.
IF EXISTS "YESNO.Q-A" THEN FANCYPAUSE ELSE PAUSE
well in dos, since case does not matter, this line still will work.
but in a multi-case environment, the program assumes that you are
looking for the file "YESNO.Q-A"
I've had little problems with the case of files for most of the BBS.
However the Q-A files have given me hours and hours of frustrations.
I've found that at any time the bbs will be looking for 1 of 4
varations in case. example
yesno.q-a
yesno.Q-A
YESNO.Q-A
YESNO.q-a
i'm assuming this is a glitch in the source code, (one that may
already be fixed in cvs, i'mnot sure)
simple solution is, copy the file 4 times to get all the variations,
This will work, but when you change a file you can have 4 different
copies. Leading to problems. To fix this simply use the link command.
you can make fake pointer files that point back to the original, and
if you edit 1 they all are changed
to link a file simpley run
"ln yesno.q-a yesno.Q-A"
and repeat for each file.
works quite well.
