NASA Exhibit at Air Power 2003 to Tell the Power to Fly Story
NASA will join in celebrating the achievements of the Wright brothers
as it showcases its contributions to powered flight at Air Power
2003, May 10 and 11 at Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB),
Dayton, Ohio.
This event will be the first public display of NASA's achievements in
improving aircraft performance, efficiency and safety during the year
long celebration of the 100 year anniversary of powered flight.
The NASA exhibit, located in Area C of the Main Hangar, will feature
historical displays on the strides the agency has made in developing
air powered propulsion. Included is a timeline that begins in 1941
and showcases the numerous contributions made to improve airplane
engines during World War II by NASA's Glenn Research Center,
Cleveland. In addition, a new display will focus on collaborative
efforts between Glenn and WPAFB during the last 60 years.
The Vision Simulator will be a highlight of NASA's presence at Air
Power 2003. The interactive and immersive hemispherical dome-shaped
simulator lets visitors experience a walk-through of the
International Space Station and a Space Shuttle landing.
Other NASA attractions on display include a 20' X 20' inflatable
Space Shuttle and the Aero Bus, a traveling exhibit of Glenn's
contributions to aeronautics. Visitors can also stop by for a unique
photo opportunity picturing themselves in space or in an aircraft.
Air Power 2003, which will have one each of every available U.S. Air
Force (USAF) aircraft, heritage aircraft, and other USAF assets on
static display, is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
on both days. Access will be through Gate 15A.
